This 1949EL Hydra-Glide Panhead in Metallic Congo Green is a True Barn Find and is amazingly original condition and very rare to find in this state. This bike is an amazing opportunity for someone to have an extremely original rare Harley Panhead. This is a rare first year Hydra-Glide model Harley only made about 30% of the 1949 Panhead production as 61” EL’s and made many more 74” FL’s in 1949. Everything on this original bike is in extremely good shape. This bike is 100% OEM there is not a single reproduction part on the bike making this already rare model extremely rare to find in this state and how everyone wants to find them. You hear the term barn find all the time but few are true barn finds like this. It lived in the barn for the last 70 years and was believed to have been parked since 1964. I also received the the original Riders Manual with the bike and owner was keeping up with oil changes in it which matches what the family told me and also matches the last tag on the bike(1964) as well as the odometer which is believed to be the original mileage with the original speedometer and dash. The matching number engine has never been gone into and is still completely original 61” EL. The engine is absolutely beautiful with zero chips on any of the fins on the heads or cylinders and zero repairs to the matching number cases and none needed they are as nice as you will ever see in their original finishes and original hardware. Original Panhead covers also are great shape, the original cam cover also in perfect shape no cracks around any bolt hole that I have seen like you see on a lot of them, oil pump looks perfect ect.  Original transmission also has no repairs on cases and is in really good shape and 100% original. Original Handlebars are also in great shape and look to be perfectly straight and both spirals are as smooth as it gets no binding at all. The original seat as you can see has a hole in it maybe by a animal in the barn but the rest is actually soft could use some conditioning. The buddy springs, helper bar and attaching hardware is all original and in amazing shape. Wheels and brakes also are in nice condition both front and back. Front end also very nice the original headlight bucket does have a dent on the top. Oil tank also very nice with no dent’s and nice and clean. Nothing has been done to this bike since I purchased it. Before the family sold it they got a Harley mechanic friend to crank it and was told all he did was oil the pistons and engine, put new spark plugs, points and condenser in it and used a IV gas tank for gas and it cranked right up. Smart obviously for him to us IV and not the tanks but the original gas tanks are extremely nice they will need a cleaning and flushing but they are in exceptional shape not a repair at all and not a single issue that I have found and all of the tabs look to be in perfect unaltered or repaired state and none needed with their original emblems and original gas caps on them The bike was not ridden of course only cranked. It will of course need to be gone through and a mechanical restoration done on it but believed to be very minor work that would need to be done on any bike that has sat for 50 years such as clutch plates, chain, tubes & tires. Rear tire tube is not holding air at the valve stem but you would be replacing both anyway to make it safe due to age & condition. Only part needed to my knowledge for restoration other than the above mentioned and only part that will cost a little money if wanting to go back original (which I highly recommend) is a new exhaust. I would not personally touch anything cosmetically on the resto. but that’s up to the new owner to decide his direction but I was only planning on doing whatever mechanical needed and that is it. The original front fender tip is off the fender but it is in the saddlebag and in great shape not dented or out of shape like most only the two mounts on it will need repaired and one of the front fender spears is missing but that and the exhaust parts mentioned are the only parts that I did not get with the bike. The rear fenders original Sargent stripes are all there in excellent shape and from underneath they appear to look like they have never been removed with the original mounting. This bike also has original rare red saddlebags on it. They are dry and will need to be conditioned from age and they have some straps broken but the broken ends are in the saddlebags. The rear & front fenders are also very nice condition both have small dents on the top of them but minor and could be rolled out from underneath by a good body guy. The fender metal integrity in perfect they are both solid as they come and have no repairs even the recessed area on the rear rear fender for chain that is almost always beaten up a little is in excellent condition.
